hello@justplaygames.uk
Last week we hosted 30 of the finest pilots around at our first ever X-Wing Store Championships. Thank you very much to everyone who made the effort to travel from the surrounding towns and cities and from other clubs such as Element and Harlequins.
With 5 rounds and top 4 cut the schedule for the day we had a lot of games on the cards and a tight cut to make the top 4 single elimination stage.
After 5 rounds we had one player on 5-0 and another 5 on 4-1 meaning two people would be missing out on MOV!
Commiserations to the two players just missing out!
We had a Team JustPlay member make the top 4! Mike Bennett would be representing us taking on Colm Browne in the Semi finals while Seb would face Colin.
I would also like to congratulate all the players that made the top 8 and won the acrylic range rulers.

Thumbs up everyone! or club people over the head..

Top 4 (left to right) Colm, Mike, Seb and Colin
You can check out the full standings and see all the Top 4 players lists here along with all the round pairings and any other information here.
In the Top 4 Team JustPlay member Mike was taking on Element Games own Colm. Mike flying Decimator and Quickdraw vs 5 A-Wings. Mike popped a A-Wing really early on but the game ended up with Mikes Decimator being backed into a corner on 2 hull points while defending himself against Colm's last remaining A-Wing on 1 HP! Three rounds of shooting seen Mike not be able to take advantage of his higher pilot skill and the A-Wings took the victory and on to the final.

The Top Four Doing Battle!
Once the other semi final game was finished we seen Seb Brady taking a break from his normal Y-Wings and playing 3 X-wing make it to the final for another all Rebel final and one involving actual X-Wings! Shame that was as far as it went as I am sure you all know by now nothing could stop Colm with a final record of 7-0 with his own favorite list which I believe he has put a lot of effort in to learning and playing great to see this pay off for him congratulations.

Our winner Colm Browne.
Thanks you again to everyone that came on the day we have the final X-Wing Q2 Tournament coming up next week with Range Rulers for the first 16 competitors to sign up all the details and tickets are available here.
Thanks

Greetings faithful citizens of the Imperium!
As the temperatures rise in our pleasant homeland this summer, so too will the galaxy be set aflame in the new summer Warhammer 40,000 campaign The Fate of Konor. The recent UK Games Expo brought us the wonderful news that this summer will see a gargantuan global campaign to decide the fate of the Adeptus Mechanicus research world of Konor and even the Ultramar system itself.

As armies battle for the strategic stronghold of Konor and wage war across the stars, the central planet of The 500 Worlds of Ultramar will see titanic battles, chaotic insurgencies and the stoic defence of the noble Ultramarines chapter in action. The deep seeded infections of Chaos and particularly the Death Guard legion are well established and tear away at the Imperium defences like a rotting fang.

This massive worldwide event will bring an incredible struggle to the worlds of the ultramar system and will allow all players to play their part in taking control of the vital resources of war. Whether it's the agile drukhari seeking slaves, the unstoppable necrons extinguishing life itself or the terrible swathes of tyranids ravaging the planets for biomass, this event will see each faction wrestle for control and supremacy over one of the jewels of imperial space.

With a new battleground taking centre stage each week, the campaign will offer incredibly varied games and we here at Justplay are primed and ready to wage war in the 41st Millennium. As such in the next six weeks we will be hosting our Conflict on Espandor slow grow league as a fun warm up event to see who can wrestle the neighbouring Cardinal World of Espandor and get ready to conquer Konor.

Espandor holds a grim past as a primary battle site in the First Tyrannic War and stood as the location of the first trial of the Tyrannic War Veterans under Marneus Calgar. Having fought back the Tyranid menace, a gargantuan Ork Waagh and several chaos incursions, the people of Espandor are hardened people who will fight to the end to defend their homes and the venerated ruling ecclesiarchy. Indeed housing many holy relics has meant the world is incredibly significant to the adeptus astartes, the Sisters of Battle and even the mysterious Grey Knights.
The Conflict on Espandor League will run for six weeks every Wednesday night at Justplay on our dedicated Warhammer 40,000 night. With a fortnightly point increase players will get to try out several new units and lists with each week having a focus on narrative missions and getting to grips with the new game system. Sign up in store and bring along 1000 points on 21st June to stamp your claim on the world of Espandor and crush your enemies into the dust.

Prizes will be awarded to the most dominant player, the army voted best painted, best sportsman and more so come on down and try out the incredible new edition of Warhammer 40,000 and show why your army is the dominant force in the universe. Whether it's the elegant Eldar, the towering Imperial Knight legions or the insidious agents of the chaos gods, all are welcome to come and test their mettle.
Format
Starting Wednesday 21st June and for the the 5 weeks following we will be playing though the 6 Narrative missions in the new 40k Rulebook starting off with 1000 point Battle Forged armies working up to 2000 points for the final 2 weeks.
Each Wednesday night we will pair you off against another attending player every win will get you 3 points and a draw 1 point.
With a prize for the the overall winner of £25 Store Credit and £10 Store Credit for the most sporting player we will also have an "Armies on Parade" during the final week of the campaign where the attendees will vote for the best painted army and the winner will also receive £10 Store Credit.
Best of all its all free!

The Top 4 from left to right Raja, Craig, Joe (winner) and Nathan.
Star Wars Destiny Store Championships.
This is event really deserves more than just a mention in a round up but here is the meat and potatoes!
Firstly you can check out the final standings and all the deck lists from the event here
The winner was Ben Blakemore straight of his win at Paul Hardman's Casino Royale Tournament which at the time was the biggest event held in the UK.
You can check out his deck list and write up on it and our event here
I have been very critical of this deck after Casino Royale and I still am but what I can not argue with is his consistency. In the events I have been to he has won every game but 1 across 14 rounds and I got to watch Ben play a lot more at the Store Champs and he is a really good player usually when you watch anyone play you are critical of every move but I think Ben played very well against some players I think are really good and real veterans of the CCG scene.
Ben's deck is cheap, really cheap and I think it goes to show that you don't need all the big Legendary cards to compete and I had a lot of the same things going on as Ben in the deck I took to Euros it was a shame Ben could not make it.

Winner Ben on the left and runner up Paul Rimmer who done a brilliant getting to the Final
X-Wing Q2 Tournament
Another brilliant turn out for our Monthly X-Wing events lots of players turning up to take part for our custom prizes and get some practice in for the upcoming European championships.
Once again you can check out all the standings and the lists for every player here
Our final winner was Seb Brady flying Quad Y-Wing TLT's

Seb (left) with runner up Twiggy
Thanks to everyone who has taken part in these and all our other events in May its not all about who wins none of these events would be a success without all of you taking part and supporting us. Running and seeing everyone enjoy themselves is certainly one of the things we love at JustPlay.
Check out our events for June and beyond over at our events calendar.

Team JustPlay
Its been a while since I reported about Blood Bowl and its great to be doing so again this time talking about the next season of the Eirie Downs League.

New rules new Teams!
The first season was a huge success business was booming with teams from all over the Old World signing up to take part, the league ended up over 3 divisions at its peak over 25 teams took part and we are hoping from more of same for Season II.
That not to say it was all perfect the over worked commissioner for the first Season was doing this for the love of the sport around his full time job selling soldiers and supplies to local nobility which meant that some things in the eyes of the fans were not up to scratch so he has been replaced but not without spending some time mentoring his replacement.
The main things that he left in place before stepping down were that the season would be shorter with Chaos and Orc raiding parties increasing players needed to get back to defend their homes or take flight to Marienburg and ships to the holiday isles. So every team will only play each other once this season. Also that more would be given back to the community in the form of friendly games with free tickets for the young old and Nurgle ridden fans. Finally that games would be played at more regular times so that more fans can make games after there long days on the farms, in the mines or not to early on the weekends after a heavy night in the taverns.
So without further ado collecting match results and keeping reporting results to you all I introduce Simon "Grudgebearer" Donaldson.

Richard Von Macanov
"Ok it’s that time of year sports fans, we’re coming to the end of the close season for the inaugural Eirie Downs League; and already coaches want more action for their teams (not to mention the local apothecary and undertaker guilds…)
So without further ado here are the provisional rules for season 2"
So sign up now the league will start middle of June and run for around 8 weeks with a Play Off to follow that to take part email your interest to eirie-downs@hotmail.com and we will sign you up!

League commissioner
Simon “Grudgebearer” Donaldson

If I could wake up within in the star wars universe tomorrow, I would either play it safe with a “standard” by Star Wars world job of a freighter pilot, nothing too dodgy onboard my craft don't want to attract the wrong people. Or go all out and become a bounty hunter, although something tells me I wouldn't last long with all these force using guys out there!!!! Yeah…I will stick to the
Star Wars Eddie Stobart of the galaxy “Keep on Space Truckin”.

Card ready for when Chris wins Worlds
Thanks to Chris for taking the time to introduce himself and tell us about why he likes taking part in events for Team JustPlay.
We have lots more content coming up for and from the team, want to get involved and get featured on our website get in touch here or message us on Facebook
And most of all thanks to Phil and the rest of the team for spreading the word and wearing our colors up and down the country.

Right now this is the deck no one wants to play against, the deck that a lot of people talk about being the best and the comment I come across the most in response to our tournament reports;
"I guess no one was playing Poe/Maz then"
I recently started testing this deck on TTS in my build up to the the upcoming European Championships (because yes we are missing this in our local meta) and wanted to get my head around what looked like a fantastic deck.
Here is the list I have been playing
Not a deck I designed myself, I just grabbed the first list I liked the look of, that had all the cards in I felt should be present.
First though, Maz Kanata!

What a card! Anyone who has followed my articles in the past will know I was a big hero player in Awakenings and being extremely jealous of Villains cheap Yellow Character Bala-Tik I could not wait to play Maz. This deck is a brilliant home for her, just looking at her and Poe together shows you can roll Poe in hoping to get those Special sides but if not, follow up with activating Maz using her ability to resolve 2 dice after she activates all you need is one of her 2 focus sides on the four dice you are rolling and you can resolve a Poe Special.
If only that was were it ended she gives you access to a selection of yellow cards that the deck could not do without.
Cunning allows us to resolve even more Poe Dameron specials in a turn now but with only 5 cards in your hand that's not really the point, it more importantly increases the number of dice that can use Poe's ability making it harder to remove all the dice.
Unsurprisingly a free upgrade that lets you cheat the action phase is good and this deck really highlights it. A strong character dice doing even more than say a Vader 3 Melee in a deck that plays pretty much no upgrades on Poe, so Fast Hands does not take up any of your valuable upgrade slots on your character is one of the core arguments to a need for balancing this card out. All we need to do is stick one on Poe, roll him in and resolve those special or Ranged damage sides, it also allows Maz to do even more dice resolving Shenanigans. Overall a great card on both your characters and something you want to see in your opening hand.

Is there a more powerful Battlefield interaction than claiming Emperor's Throne Room into Poe's special? I certainly don't think so. Having Hyperspace Jump is not only a fantastic get out of jail free card but lets you get your battlefield back into use as no one in their right mind is letting you have it if you lose the roll off! Yellow also gives you access to Electroshock and many other options you may like to explore depending on your meta or how the wider tournament meta shapes up. The final and most important thing to consider here is the fact that yellow gives you huge upgrades and supports which will nearly always be your main win conditions.

Now we have Spirit of the Rebellion the amount of upgrades and supports with sides big enough to support Poe, above we have 6 upgrades and supports with nearly all having a side that can put 4 or even more damage out on your opponents characters.
The final card that really needs talking about is another new one that is considerably different to cards we have seen before and pushes the new lease of life supports have in SOR.

The card that (until the errata) was ready to give the Hyperloop combo a win condition to take it to the next level. We still see this beauty finding a home in this deck as one of the few cards I spend my resources on to actually stay in play, but the rewards are so worth it. This deck finishes it's turn insanely quick so claiming is nearly always on the cards for you, but its not just that. The effect this has on your opponent's turn is huge by forcing them onto the clock to win, their play is accelerated even more when you land this card. It opens you up to whole new lines of play you wont have seen before in a game of Destiny.
The deck is rounded out with a suite of cards designed to keep Poe alive just that little bit longer by giving him shields and removing your opponent's dice. You don't need to buy yourself much time with a hyper aggro deck like this, particularly if you can land a Planetary Uprising to close the game out.
I could talk though all sorts of dream situations and turns with you where I put out 8-10 damage turn 1, but we could do the same for many decks we see currently in the tournament scene. The difference here is it takes so little to put all the main beats together as 1 dice is doing 4+ damage here and we need no upgrades. Only 2 of your dice need that glorious 1 in 6 chance, backed up by all Maz's focus and your battlefield leading to an incredibly consistent deck.
How this deck fits into the meta is what I am working hard to figure out right now. It very clearly has a lot going for it, operating so much quicker than pretty much everyone else. U-Wing and Thermal Detonator punish 3-4 character builds so badly that I can't see how they can keep up. Can this deck burst though Second Chances? I am not so confident about that and think it could be weak to Second Chance in a damage shell and certainly a Mill deck focused on hand disruption. The one deck I have personally found to beat this list pretty regular is Elite Palpatine, that deck needs even less than this deck to go right for him to do a ton of damage and his 15 health vs Poe's 12 seem to make him favourable in the match-up.
If your heading to the European Championships, US Nationals or your local Store Championship keep this character line up in mind as you're making your choice on what deck to play. Who knows, you could be the next tournament winner, with a string of broken opponents lying broken at the feet of Poe and Maz.
We have our own store Championships coming up May 27th you can get your tickets here and check out our singles for the last cards you need!

JustPlay has just held it’s first organised play tournament for the rising TCG that is Final Fantasy. This tournament comprised of 11 players all taking advantage of the strong cards which have been released, even managing to make large use of the cards released just weeks prior in Opus II. Decks such as Standard units, modified starter decks, mono-colour decks and even blends of the player’s creations battled it out in 4 rounds of swiss, before a top 4 cut.
Here is a quick rundown of the top 4 players and their decklists, and a quick overview of what their deck aimed to do. All of these players went 3-1 in Swiss.

This deck took third place in Swiss due to Strength of Schedule (SOS) before falling to fourth place in the top four cut. Mono water is not the typical mono colour deck but it does have some very strong cards, including the forward Wakka, most notable for the special ability Status Reel. This can negate abilities on the field, but more noticeably it can negate effects which trigger when the card is sent to the break zone. Status reel negates the effects of the card entirely, so it will make a Golbez or any other monster with a strong on-break effect fizzle. The combo of Lenne and Yuna forwards cannot be understated either, with the ability to drop a 3 drop leviathan from the deck to bounce a blocker to hand being strong in itself.

This is what I played at the tournament. The FFX starter was my favourite starter deck on release and the Yuna, Rikku and Paine combo is still strong. Taking a preference to the backup yuna for lower summon cost to keep it protected moreso than a forward Yuna worked well, and there were very few times that she was broken. The star of this deck again was the Forward Wakka, able to blank a card at any point. Another surprisingly good card was Larsa, a forward with the same field effect as Minwu; that forwards can’t take damage less than their power. Also, the ability to make a Rikku 12k to block if Yuna and Paine are on the field, as well as not being able to take damage less than her power stops a lot of decks from being able to get player damage in. Valefor was also an extremely useful card as most of the time it was a free, or sometimes even better than free 3k board nuke. Having two in hand, Yuna on field and one more backup resulted in 6k to everything your opponent has, which can break a lot of decks early game, and can be a counter to a deck such as unblockables.

The first thing that should become apparent with this is how heavily the deck list favours ice. With only one lightning forward, it’s the ice cards that will be making up the bulk of the attacking force in this deck. The Lightning element is very much almost a tech choice, complementing the heavy FFVIII lineup. This deck, as any ice deck does, features a lot of dulling and freezing effects, with the legendary Rinoa being able to make your opponent unable to block, because if they do and kill Rinoa, her ability to dull all the opponent forwards will leave the board open for further attacks. A lot of the power in this deck comes from the backups, with cards such as Jihl and Time Mage slowing the opposition down tremendously. It allows you to set up a field, hopefully getting out both Laguna and Squall, and hopefully even a Rinoa. With the local meta not terribly favouring high cost forwards, Vayne wasn’t needed here, and a very formidable deck rose to second place.

Mono fire has been one of the prominent decks all over the globe since the release of Opus 2. It is mainly due to one card; Emperor Xande. Playing Mono Fire is to get rid of the first condition of his effect, which is that he can only be played by fire Cp. Dealing 5k whenever it attacks, and dealing 9k when it dies, on top of it’s massive 9k body is devastating. If your opponent has two monsters, you are likely taking out two monsters if they decide to block. But it’s not the only reason this deck is so strong. There is a lot of removal in the form of legendary cloud and bahamut, and Tellah, but there are also a few specks of an unblockable deck hidden in there. With quite a few 2 drop forwards, sage and also with common Tifa having haste, this deck was able to often go for a few points of damage very early, and force a response, putting a timer on the game. Then Legendary Tifa took over.
Her special, making all 3 drops unable to block, as well as making one extra forward unable to block whenever she attacks, means you have to have high cost forwards to block, or you are losing the game. Which means you can’t attack with them, but it also means you can’t attack with your low cost forwards, because they will get blocked by the beefy bodies that this deck provides. With so many abilities such as Ifrit doing damage, this deck forces you to keep up the tempo with high power monsters, but they can get pinged just as easily by Tellah or Bahamut. The deck has a lot of options, and the only concern that Jamie ever had with the deck is that it can occasionally run low on resources. Apart from that, a great blend of Mono-Fire.

The winner Jamie (left) and Micheal runner up!
Congratulations to Jamie for the big win on the day. We have a Win a Box of Opus 1 event coming up at the start of June, with tickets on sale now available on our store for just £10 here. To celebrate the launch of Spirit of the Rebellion and to raise money for the charity Special Effect we held a "Win a Box" event for Spirit of Rebellion.
As everyone scrambled to get cards together and piece together a deck from all of their pulls hoping to win another box, the excitement had really hotted up!
After four rounds of Swiss the Top 4 players certainly had some nice character line ups and the start of some decks that could certainly see play in competitive Destiny post SOR with a nice mix of Mill, Tempo, and Damage decks. Certainly some of these bear a resemblance to decks we have been testing for the upcoming European Championships but people need a few more cards to clean up some of these numbers Maybe winning a box will help.
Congratulations to the winner Tom Best defeating his fiance in the final to win the box, although I suspect Charlotte will not be to unhappy with Tom winning as they share collections!

Its finally all over the leagues have finished we have got though a outstanding amount of games of Blood Bowl and the final Standings are here!
First thanks to everyone who joined in even if it was just showing your interest and trying to make all your games I know its a big commitment so thank you VERY VERY much to all those who played every game out. In particular those who may not have had a chance at the title or a play off spot and still organised all their games and have been very active in the community group. I know it got hard for those last few weeks and we seen a few drops then but thank you everyone.
Two people stand out as meeting this criteria rain or shine, dead lineman or dead star players nothing stopped these guys turning out and would like to invite them both to coach in the Pro Bowl Draft and Game taking each other on one last time. Chris Farrie and Calavera Lugosi thanks for being great sports and showing us why we all ultimately play this game, for fun!
Now onto the final standings!
Starting with Central

A miracle did not go Andrew's way and Simon just kept Mathew out of third. Congrats to Christian in his first table top event taking the crown!
Now onto the West it was all to play for if you remember
