Commander League at JustPlay is a casual pod format. The Turn 7 Rule is how we keep games feeling like games, not solved puzzles. Everything on this page is a soft rule for our tables: it is not a Rule 0 negotiation, it is the house baseline. If you want a cEDH table, say so up front and build the pod accordingly.
No winning, eliminating, locking out or hard-committing before turn 7 upkeep on the first player's turn. Combo pieces are allowed on the board, lands can be ramped, politics are encouraged. Finishing the game early, in any form, is not.
Measure from the first player who started the game. Turn 7 upkeep on that player's turn is the earliest point anyone can take the win.
Chip damage is fine, politics is fine, knocking someone out of the game before turn 7 is not. If a line of play would take a seat out, hold it or take a different line.
Hard limit: one extra turn per player, per turn cycle. Extra turn spells and triggers are not banned, just capped. No infinite extra-turn loops, no stacking three in a row.
In any form. That includes bouncing lands, destroying lands, exiling lands, and stripping lands out of opponents' libraries. Targeted removal of a single problem land is fine, mass denial is not.
Deliberately setting another player up to win, with no benefit to yourself or the pod, is off the table. Help who you want, trade who you want, but spite-wins are not the game we are playing.
Combo pieces are allowed on the board. You can draft them, tutor them, protect them within reason. The one thing you cannot do is activate the combo before turn 7, even to protect a piece from removal.
Everyone keeps the basics before turn 7: the ability to draw a card per turn, use mana, tap and untap permanents consistently, and hold a hand. Stax pieces are fine in moderation, soft locks are a judgment call, hard lockouts are off.
Even with blockers present. Big attacks can be a way to lock a board state down to no creatures, which hits the same ground as rules 2 and 7. Save the alpha strike for turn 7.
Most Commander tables at JustPlay are built around 3 or 4 people sitting down together on a Thursday night, bringing a mix of deck strengths and wanting to actually play the game they built. The Turn 7 Rule gives every seat time to deploy, every strategy time to turn up, and every player time to feel the game. It also means a brand new Commander player at the table does not get removed from their first game on turn 3 and never come back.
Before the game starts, agree it. If everyone at the table wants a faster, higher-powered game, say so and treat it as Rule 0. Turn 7 is the baseline, not the ceiling. What we do not want is one player cutting the game short while three others thought they were still playing a slower pod.
Resolve it between the pod first. If the pod cannot settle it, grab a staff member. Repeat offenders will be asked to move to a different format or a different table. We would rather you play a different format well than play this one badly.
